The New Colossus (tribute)

I was looking through my poetry that I had done a few years ago and I found a poem that was very enlightening. It was tribute to a poem by Emma Lazarus. Her poem was also called The New Colossus. I hope you like it!


I lift my light and see the faces
Of many people of different places
I raise my head and smile warm
Welcoming everyone to a place of no harm

They see my smile and know its true
They see the door and walk right through
To a land of food and freedom
Free to build a mighty kingdom
We start out new and build up trust
All thanks to the New Colossus
